“Let me tell you something that goes against popular wisdom. Love is not blind; it just looks in the wrong places.”
Bold, brave and moving. Meena Kandasamy has created a literary masterpiece in When I Hit You.
Don’t read this book if you’re looking for an easy read with lots of plot, it is not for you. It’s hard to take in sometimes, but that is EXACTLY why it needs to be read.
Not only does it reveal the complexity of human relations, but it also does it in such a poetic and lyrical way. It really is nothing like anything else I’ve read.
I particularly appreciated the insight into a different culture. Sometimes we can forget how similar we all are and also how unique our cultures are all at the same time.
Ultimately, if you’re looking for a book to broaden your mind then read this but don’t forget to also allow yourself a moment to bathe in the beauty of Kandasamy’s prose.
